Yellow Sorting Trays
These yellow sorting trays are probably one of the most utilised classroom resources! I use them for everything from sorting in maths to organising art materials for lessons.
One of the many uses I have found for them in maths is to use a whiteboard marker to write numbers in each section; I save the centre for the concrete materials. The children then have the task of putting the correct number of, in this example, links into each section.
Similarly, the same resources can be used for a simple sorting activity. In the following example the children are sorting by colour alone, whereas the sorting tray in the final example requires the children to create their own criteria for sorting.
These types of sorting trays are widely available in shops such as Tesco, Homestore And More etc. However, I picked mine up at Michael Doherty.
